Wicomico County is in the southeastern section of the U.S. state of Maryland. It was known as for the Wicomico River, which in turn derives from either Indian words wicko mekee, meaning a place in which houses come built, apparently on to an Indian town on the banks. Wicomico County was created from either Somerset and Worcester Counties in 1867.
